What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition?
Since 1955, Federal Way Custom Jewelers has offered jewelry design services, expert repair & appraisals, loose diamonds & gemstones, antique & estate items, and a wide variety of pre-made jewelry perfect for any special occasion. We focus on creating beautiful jewelry that matches our clients style, budget, and lifestyle. We also believe in ethical sourcing of our products, buying many of our items and diamonds from estates and auctions, and sourcing our colored gemstones directly from miners and cutters overseas. All of our work if performed locally by master craftsman, allowing us to stand behind and warranty everything we repair and sell.
What was the inspiration to start or run this business?
Every member of the Federal Way Custom Jewelers team is passionate about jewelry and what our pieces represent for our clients. We love being involved in the most precious moments of our client's lives, and restoring our client's cherished heirloom pieces to their prior glory. Rene purchased our store in 1981, and with a passion for custom and colored gemstones, he has worked to bring high-quality and affordable jewelry services to our community. Our sales team is GIA trained and has a combined 45+ years of experience in buying, selling, and repairing jewelry- jewelry is our life's work.
What do you love most about your job?
Donna and Sean are our designers and repair experts; they pride themselves in being able to make unique items that are a representation of our clients' personal style, or helping restore our clients sentimental treasures. They especially enjoy getting to know their client then turning their dreams and ideas into reality. Brandon is responsible for our antique collection, and loves that jewelry can tell a story while representing hundreds of years of history in a tiny tangible object. Rene is most passionate about rare and collectible colored gemstones: he has devoted his career to curating a vast collection of gem-quality colored stones from all over the world, Sapphires, Rubies, Emeralds, Opals, Spinels, Tourmalines, Garnets.
What is the best reaction you've ever gotten from a customer?
We have seen many fantastic reactions through the years, but this was our favorite. A client purchased a large pair of dangling diamond earrings, then came to pick them up with a friend. When she saw how fancy they were, the friend asked when/where our client was ever going to wear them. The client responded "I am going home, will run a bath, light some candles, pour some wine, get naked, and wear my earrings."
