Exercise is challenging, and people frequently give up on their fitness routines. How do you keep clients motivated?
The experience of a well-guided yoga class leaves clients feeling both relaxed and energized. It motivates them to continue their practice. In other words, the yoga does the work.
Sweating to the oldies is acceptable, but sweating to the blues less so. Do you find that certain styles and genres of music generate more intense workouts?
I do. I always choose music to support the intention of my class, energizing or calming.
When and how did you first develop a passion for fitness?
Yoga is not fitness. It's a path of life-transformation. Yoga postures are designed to relieve stress and strengthen the body so that an individual can better sit in meditation. When we meditate, we are more capable of managing our lives instead of getting our puppet strings constantly pulled. We stay on our path in life, true to our hearts. I developed an interest in yoga during my recovery from an eating disorder and alcoholism, and my physical, mental and spiritual health increased so dramatically over the traditional approaches that I immediately entered yoga teacher training. I wanted to help others feel as wonderful as I did.
