The Issue: Impact of Food Insecurity in the United States
In 2013, 49 million Americans, including 15.8 million children, were food-insecure, meaning they lived at risk of hunger, according to a report from the US Department of Agriculture. Of those, 6.8 million households experienced very low food security, meaning a lack of resources led to disrupted eating patterns and reduced food intake.
The Campaign: Providing Nutritious Meals for Families
All donations to this Grassroots campaign will be used by Feeding America to provide meals for low-income families. For every $10 raised, Feeding America can provide 100 meals for a family of four. Feeding America can create and distribute 10 meals for every $1 raised due to its extensive network and efficient process. The meals will nourish families in communities across America that have been affected by food insecurity.

Every year, Feeding America supplies nutritious food to more than 37 million Americans, including 14 million children and 3 million seniors. The organization distributes the 3 billion pounds of food through an expansive network of more than 200 food banks and 61,000 agencies across the country. Grocery stores, government agencies, and individuals contribute funds and food, which Feeding America then transports to communities in need through member food banks, ensuring everyone in the area has access to meals. Feeding America also takes a leadership role on the local and national stage, advocating for efficient government programs that address the issue of food insecurity in communities nationwide.
