About Ferg's Depot
In 1889, railroad tycoon Henry B. Plant built a train station for the South Florida Railroad. It was called the Old Orlando Railroad Depot and was used mostly as a terminus for livestock and grain transportation. Fast forward to the 1970s: the station and surrounding buildings were turned into an entertainment center, which lasted until the late 80s, when the station was vacated and left empty.
It sat like that for nearly 30 years until the owners of Ferg's Sports Bar and Grill—across the street from Tropicana Field in downtown St. Pete—saw the station as the potential home of another Ferg's location. They transformed the Church St. landmark back into a destination: today, the depot consists of several original buildings and train platforms, but it also features three dining rooms, four bars, a courtyard, an outdoor oyster bar, and 80 beers on tap. A sports-themed menu rounds out the old station's revival:
- Ahi tuna nachos: spicy sushi-grade ahi tuna over fried rice chips and finished with wasabi aioli and spicy mayo
- Bourbon Street burger: A half-pound beef patty—made with brisket, short rib, and sirloin—topped with blue cheese crumbles, chopped bacon, onion straws, and a bourbon glaze
- St. Louis cut ribs: dry-rubbed in a house blend of secret ingredients, smoked inside Ferg's famous smoker, and finished with honey barbecue, spicy barbecue, or bourbon glaze
