Tending a bar, like tending a baby or a 400-acre ranch, requires hard work, patience, and the ability to tolerate lots of wild screaming. Hone your hand at the bar with today's Groupon: for $65, you get an intro to bartending class at Fine Art Bartending (a $165.99 value).

Fine Art Bartending offers hands-on training to professional barkeep aspirants and home-hobbyists alike in a fun and interactive environment. During the four-hour introductory class, an experienced pro will teach you all the bartending basics and sympathetic-listening techniques necessary to manning the boozy gates. You'll cover proper mixing, pouring, layering, and braising methods as you create your own concoctions of classic cocktails, martinis, and shots. Your instructor will also go over all the essential elements to stocking and maintaining a home bar so that you’re prepared when a potential mate or the Calgary Flames stop by for a drink.

Knowing how to create a tasty cocktail is a must for any singleton or savvy host looking to liven up their next book-club meeting. Seize this opportunity to learn top techniques from the pros, and savour your new skills on a Saturday night at home or at the home of vacationing neighbours. Classes are usually scheduled on Saturday afternoons from noon to 4 p.m.

Must be 18 or older.

I found that the extra classes were to expensive, and I couldn't attend

The instructor was apparently called in at the last minute to fill in, but seemed largely unenthused to be there. This was not a 2 hour class, as promised. Finally, I'm not sure how you learn about mixing martinis without being able to taste the results. How do you know what proportions are good without being able to taste the final product. Disappointing.
