Even at an Irish wake, the good times flow like a properly poured Guinness cascading off the barman’s bare chest. Surround yourself with a raucous group of Boston Irish with today’s deal: for $29, you get one ticket to see Finnegan’s Wake at the Lantana in Randolph, a $48 value. Your Groupon is only valid for the date you purchase, so be sure to buy from the correct link above. All shows start at 7:30 p.m. and include general admission and a three-course dinner.
This improv-infused interactive comedy centers on an Irish wake, an event notorious for being even more raucous and whiskey-fueled than an Irish bris. The characters commemorate the life and times of a fallen comrade as only the Irish can. Through audience participation and contributions, each performance is a one-of-a-kind journey through participatory song, dance, and jokes. While sitting back to enjoy the show or speaking up to influence it, you’ll be served three courses, including a tossed garden salad, chicken piccata with light lemon butter sauce, and velvet chocolate mousse for dessert. Though the actors are not officially allowed to eat off your plate, their desperate expressions may encourage you to toss them a scrap or two.
The beautiful setting of the Lantana is a perfect backdrop for the gritty good times of Finnegan’s Wake. This is a great place to make up for any recent romantic missteps involving beds of thorny roses. Or come with a group of your favorite lads and ladies and quickly bond with fellow mock funeral attendees over a few pints.
With Finnegan’s Wake’s 11th season starting March 6, reviews for the upcoming season will have to wait. However, the Atlantic City Weekly played up the show’s laughs during its New Jersey incarnation: > * Death doesn’t take a holiday in Atlantic City’s newest interactive show. Death is the holiday — or at least a cause for celebration — in the latest adaptation of “Finnegan’s Wake,”…Loosely based on the Irish song of the same name, Finnegan’s Wake is a dinner theater experience that puts the audience in the middle of a raucous Irish wake and gets the crowd into the act, which often contains dialogue that would give it an R-rating if it was a film. – David J.
