First Colonial Eye Center
As a board-certified ophthalmologist who has been practicing since 1975, First Colonial Eye Center's Dr. Douglas Rampona has seen eye-care technologies come and go. But not many eye doctors can say that they have developed and federally patented an all-laser procedure that corrects nearsightedness and astigmatism. The innovative process is called Supralase, and, unlike traditional LASIK or one-piece PJs, the forward-thinking treatment does not require the creation of a flap. Dr. Rampona and his team, including ophthalmologist Dr. Avrum 'Avi' Meier, whose career-focus has been in treating diseases of they eye, also offer traditional laser vision-correction surgery, treatments for cataracts and glaucoma, eye exams, and cosmetic Botox injections.
In addition to having a medical degree from Baylor University, Dr. Rampona has been elected Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and The Royal Society of Medicine. He also served his country in the military—both as a Naval medical officer and as a chief medical-readiness officer—and supports others around the globe by donating his time and services during medical and humanitarian missions. First Colonial Eye Center was recently added to Coastal Virginia magazine's Reader's Choice Awards 2014 list.
