First Stage Children’s Theater is one of the largest professional children’s theater companies in the country, putting on around 300 kid-friendly performances every year. In The Magic Bicycle, an original show developed through First Stage’s New Play Workshop Program, 14-year-old Willy travels through time on his enchanted twin-wheeled conveyance, befriending a nineteenth-century orphan named Lilah on his way to search for his dad in the more recent past. As Lilah and Willy zip between Civil War battlefields, medieval villages, and a dreamlike world where Lance Armstrong holds forth on the importance of cycle maintenance, they become fast friends and learn about what it means to be a family. This performance in the intimate, 500-seat Todd Wehr Theater is most enjoyed by spectators over the age of 8, or 56 in bicycle years.
