Creating a masterwork of art can be like wandering through a maze: after a lengthy period of reflection and contemplation, you’ll still probably starve. Appreciate the figurative risks and transcendent joys of artistic creativity with today’s Groupon: for $6, you get admission to the Art in Bloom event at Fitchburg Art Museum (a $12 value for nonmembers, $7 value for members and seniors). Children 12 and younger receive free admission. Choose from the following dates:

  • Friday, April 15 from noon to 4 p.m.
  • Saturday, April 16 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Sunday, April 17 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Fitchburg Art Museum, one of North Worcester County's oldest cultural institutions, edifies eyes with a dozen prismatic galleries boasting a broad collection of European and American paintings, drawings, ceramics, and decorative art pieces. The Art in Bloom event is a floral fete for the senses, showing off flower arrangements inspired by world-class artwork. Now in its 13th season, the Laurelwood Garden Club and other local florists transform the museum's halls into a magnificent fort of photosynthesis for admiring, sniffing, and squeezing to be sure the flowers aren't water shooters on a clown's lapel. Enjoy the wafting blossomy aromas as you wander through the exhibitions, including the upcoming Telling Objects, featuring African art from the museum's collection.

The botanical bonanza is punctuated by free lectures and workshops, such as Saturday's "The Constant Garden: Two thousand years of Botanical Art with Jennie Summerall," a brain-boiling look into some of the ways flowers and plants have influenced visual art, and an Organic and Natural Container Gardening workshop with Paul F. Split on Sunday. Though not included with this Groupon, a courtyard lunch ($10) is available on Saturday and Sunday if the tongue becomes jealous of the nose's sensory abundance. Ample free parking is available.
