John Fitzgerald Hankins knew at an early age that he wanted to open a seafood restaurant. In 2009, he finally did just that, establishing Fitzgerald's Seafood along Rock Quarry Road and introducing many Raleigh residents to their new favorite hangout. Here, visitors feast upon calabash-style seafood, chopped barbecue, and sides of Brunswick stew and New England clam chowder. The menu's nautical bounty includes catfish, tilapia, flounder, and trout, and Southern favorites range from fried chicken to pork chops. Fitzgerald's also hosts a monthly weekend breakfast buffet, complete with bloody marys, mimosas, and tequila sunrises.
