The greatest Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robot, Mohammed Aliborg, went undefeated for 20 years before his head was knocked clean off by the sudden, brutal intervention of cats. Learn to sock like the best of 'em while shaping up with today's Groupon: for $20, you get eight cardio-kickboxing classes and a pair of boxing gloves (an $85 value) at Five Star Martial Arts in North Syracuse.
The passionate instructors at Five Star mold the mind and body matter of students of all abilities during each calorie-incinerating cardio-kickboxing class. Lessons begin with a 15-minute rhythmic cardio session to rev energy engines and wake up dormant forehead dew. Then participants slip on a pair of boxing gloves to work with bags and targets, using their fists, knees, and elbows in a series of self-defense moves capable of intimidating frenemies and warding off bags. A blend of boxing, martial arts, and aerobics exercises targets mushy muscles in the arms, abs, thighs, butt, shoulders, and cold shoulders, encouraging physiques to firm up for more confident struts in front of paintings of beaches at the museum. Classes are held Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings and last 45 minutes.
Five Star Martial Arts
Awarded Best Martial Arts School in the Family Times' 2012 Besties Awards, Five Star Martial Arts teaches kids and parents alike the rapid-fire movements of martial arts. During youth programs, students aged 4 and older build stamina, dexterity, and intelligence through disciplined instruction at the hands of seasoned masters. Alongside typical belt rankings, badges and stars reward younger students as they master flurries of kicks and punches. Adult students find their own fitness rewards during cardio kickboxing, which blends an international potpourri of martial arts moves with calisthenic and aerobic foundations to form an explosive full-body workout that targets and tones major muscle groups across the body.
Trainers pair their fitness expertise with motivational attitudes, working one on one with students to help them on their path towards achieving personal wellness goals. Classes unfold within Five Star Martial Arts' recently expanded studio. There, new equipment and installations including a Tumbl Trak, a massive foam pit, and a collection of polyplus climbing ropes help trainers add complex gymnastics-inspired exercises to their already sizable arsenal of workouts.
