With its unpretentious atmosphere and generous tap list, Flanagan's Ale House is a lot like a charming country Irish pub—that is, if that pub had been charmingly airlifted to Louisville, and outfitted with some American amenities. The bar boasts 14 flat-screen TVs, for instance, and a Texas Hold 'Em poker night—a departure from the best-known Irish card game in which every card is a potato.

The star of the bar food, however, is an Irish staple: fish and chips served here with fresh tartar sauce and cranberry coleslaw. Other dishes range from heaping plates of chicken wings to the "Highland Cheeseburger," served with optional beer cheese.
