FAA-certified instructors usher students skyward in training aircraft

Pilots are the cowboys of the air, roaming the wide-open skies and herding children's runaway balloons. Giddy up, up, and away with today's Groupon: for $100, you get an introductory flight lesson from FlightGest, Inc. (a $200 value). All flights depart from Raleigh-Durham airport in Morrisville.

FlightGest’s fleet of FAA-certified instructors lift tender-footed aeronauts to the skies during introductory lessons that last about an hour. After a brief overview of ground instruction and safety procedures, students and instructors climb into the training aircraft, equipped with digital Garmin cockpits for accurate readings of altitude, weather, and tarot cards. Following a swift ascension, pupils can practice simple airborne maneuvers from a gradual turn to communication with air traffic control. Airborne jaunts may be credited toward students’ pursuits of pilot’s licenses, and educators will review lessons with fledgling fliers after touchdown dances have been completed. An additional guest may bear witness to the rookie’s flight for a $10 fee.
