Hamburgers are modeled after Victorian-era architecture, a style known for its sesame-seed-dusted roofs, flowing lettuce curtains, and meat everywhere. Feast ornately upon a well-formed feeding frenzy at Flipside Burger & Bar in downtown Fairfield with today's Groupon: for $8, you get $16 worth of burgers, beers, shakes, and more. This deal is not valid for take-out.

Flipside Burger & Bar makes epicurean dreams come true by letting customers customize the contents of their edible packages. Begin your Flipside adventure by choosing a beef, chicken, or veggie patty. Once you've established your protein allegiance, decide if you'd like your burger's floor left plain ($6.25) or carpeted with cheese ($6.75). Continue to pile your fresh-baked bun with gourmet, handcrafted condiments and tasty toppings ($0.50–$1.25) such as gorgonzola, grilled onions, coleslaw, and avocado. If you already used up your day's supply of creativity trying to impress an artist's smock, select one of Flipside's tried-and-true specialties. Green thumbs curl effortlessly around savory garden burgers ($7.50), whereas both hands are required to lift the hefty patty melt burger, which features a beef patty stuffed between two grilled cheese sandwiches, topped with grilled tomato and onions ($8.25). Recovering burger addicts can chomp on freshly cut fries ($3), grilled hot dogs ($3.25), crisp salads ($6.75–$8.50), or seafood baskets ($18.50).

Customers can rinse down their rations with one of four beers from tap, something from Flipside's list of organic wines, or a decadent milkshake or malt. Flat-screen TVs adorn the modern eatery's cream and wood-paneled walls, offering fallback amusement if blind-date conversation gets awkward or if you're asked to remove your tap shoes.

Reviews

  • Great place to go if you are with the kids, and if you are not, you can eat at a booth on the bar side, where they dont [sic] allow children. (Yeah owners! Great call, especially for "date" nights!) – Kristin D.
  • I'm a fan of good old regular American fare. I've been to Flipside 2 times, and each time it was delicious, fresh, and exceeded my expectations. – Gigi B.

About Flipside Burger & Bar

Flipside's brand new menu showcases thousands of different burger combinations, allowing diners to mix and match six different proteins with high-end ingredients including avocado and bacon, as well as creative sauces such as chipotle or pesto mayo. This creative twist as well as Flipside's diverse menu of 16 specialty burgers earned the restaurant a Best of the Gold Coast 2013 award. Farm-fresh sirloin patties anchor a dozen specialty burgers, including the Hawaii Five-O Burger with barbecue pulled pork, bacon, and grilled pineapple and The Goat Burger, which is topped with goat cheese, sun dried tomato, caramelized onion, and honey and balsamic glaze.

Slow-cooked pulled-pork sandwiches provide a sauce-smothered alternative to Flipside's signature creations, as do herbivore-friendly salads that may be repackaged in a whole-wheat wrap. Diners can begin their meals with an array of starters such as sautéed mussels or the Flipside Nachos, with homemade chips or french fries smothered with chili, cheese, salsa, guacamole, and sour cream. Sudsy drafts caterwaul from a dulcet quartet of foam-flecked taps, spurring choreographed pours and surprise visits from Spuds McKenzie behind a triangular bar, where mixologists concoct specialty martinis and margaritas.
