Prior to each treatment, a 10-minute orientation elucidates the history and safety of flotation tanks and answers any questions. The client showers before entering the chamber, where 10.5 inches of ultrasaturated Epsom salt water float the body in complete darkness. The chamber is 8.5’x4’ to ensure a comfortable, cramp-free experience, and a constant temperature of 93.5 degrees keeps the body cozy and combines with the water to convince the mind that it’s floating in air. After the float, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and moisturizer await the salty client. Robes, shoes, and disposable earplugs are provided for each client, and when guests exit into the gallery, the staff greets rejuvenated bodies with water and hot tea. FLOAT Flotation Center & Art Gallery

Though FLOAT’s neon sign is small and easy to miss in the window of an old converted cotton mill, its interior is anything but unremarkable. The artist-owned urban art spa stimulates the mind with work from established and rising local artists and submerges clients in warm, dark chambers that relieve bodies of their senses. These deprivation floats enhance relaxation and open up channels of creativity, freeing brains from the incessant digital stimulation and algebraic speed-limit signs of the outside world. While enclosed inside the chamber, clients float in a weightless state atop a mixture of 1,000 pounds of medical-grade Epsom salts in 10.5 inches of water. There, air, water, and skin become alike—refreshing the nerves while recharging the mind more efficiently than sleep. Complementing flotation sessions are massage services that enhance already relaxed states.

Customer Reviews

Such a unique and refreshing experience. Can't wait for my next float!
Cenecca B. · April 14, 2013
Wonderful experience. I was a bit bothered by the musty smell in the tank but that would be my only complaint. I was relaxed and at ease for two days afterwards.
Cheryl S. · November 26, 2012
I would definitely recommend it. Fun to do with friend or partner even though you float in separate tanks. You spend time together before hand and having tea after
