Florida Gulf Coast Center For Fishing and Interactive Museum
The nonprofit Florida Gulf Coast Center For Fishing and Interactive Museum celebrates its home state's rich maritime tradition and uses fishing as a way to teach lifelong lessons. Its exhibit walls brim with models of various fish species, while an art gallery celebrates the work of maritime artists through paintings of fish, boats, and surreal visualizations of Atlantis. Elsewhere, simulation machines let guests practice fishing and boat-steering skills.
Inside the center’s classrooms, adults and children learn about fishing and create their own nautical works of art. Classes and camps specifically designed for grade-school students include hands-on activities—such as rod building and fish-anatomy lessons—to teach patience, preparation, and how to escape if you’re swallowed by a whale. The instructors have also partnered with dozens of local schools to create fishing clubs, which allow students to cast their lines into the center's well-stocked onsite pond.
