Today's side deal gets your feet rolling on a long-deferred New Year's resolution: for $40, you enroll in a half-marathon training course at Foot Traffic University ($85 value). Training begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday, January 30, at the Northeast Foot Traffic store for runners and walkers committed to participating in the Foot Traffic Flat Half Marathon. Weekly meetings vary throughout Lake Oswego, Downtown Portland, and Northeast Portland. Along with a 10% discount at any of Foot Traffic's stores, you'll get $15 off admission to the race itself (up to $60 fee).

Your education puts you in a class of up to 300 mobile partners as you meet three Saturdays each month at such diversely mapped locations as Lake Oswego, Downtown Portland, and more. You'll work your body by getting important weekly exercise in a pressure-free environment filled with people who have the same goal as you do. Along with inspiring guest speakers, who include physical therapists and nutritionists, Foot Traffic University will extend your wardrobe with a complimentary "Member" T-shirt and a slick pair of free SmartWool Socks. Foot Traffic University runs from the end of January until July 4, so you'll be in peak condition just in time for the annual Foot Traffic Flat Half Marathon.

This side deal is for the training university and not the Flat Half Marathon itself.
