A boisterous and uplifting portrait of love in a nontraditional family, the Tony Award-winning musical-comedy La Cage aux Folles has been one of Broadway's biggest hits for more than 30 years -- and now you can catch it at Phoenix's Fountain Hills Theater. The show follows the domestic adventures of Georges, a Saint-Tropez nightclub manager, and Albin, his partner and the club's main attraction, the drag performer Zaza. But things get a little wiggy when Georges' son brings his fiancée's conservative parents home to meet the flashy pair, testing their family bonds and resulting in much hilarity. Adapted into the hit Robin Williams film The Birdcage, La Cage features the showstopper "I Am What I Am," and boasts a book by Harvey Fierstein (Torch Song Trilogy) and lyrics and music by the legendary Jerry Herman (Hello, Dolly!, Mame).
This show contains adult themes and is recommended for those ages 14 and older.
