What You'll Get
If you've never had authentic New York–style pizza, then what you think is pizza might in fact be a cunningly disguised pretzel. Today's Groupon clears up the confusion: for $10, you get $20 worth of hand-tossed New York–style pizza, pasta, salads, sandwiches, and drinks at Freeport Pizza Kitchen in O’Hara Township. Freeport Pizza Kitchen stays open late (until 10 p.m. Sunday, 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11 p.m. all other days) and its bar stays open even later (until 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday and midnight on all other days).
Much like the sun in most medieval Italian conceptions of the cosmos, the menu at Freeport Pizza Kitchen revolves around signature pizzas. Fill up on hometown pride during the next Steelers game with a large Pittsburgh Pizza, which is loaded down with homemade ranch dressing, grilled chicken, cheddar, tomato, red onion, and bacon before being finished with coleslaw and fries ($18). Mad scientists will want to tamper with the laws of nature using Freeport’s three-step build-your-own pizza ($8–$12), which lets you craft delicious abominations out of 10 meats, 15 veggies, and five kinds of cheese ($.75–$1.25). Leafier appetites can adopt a similar acumen with Freeport’s build-your-own salad option ($7) or outfit their iTongue with apps such as flash-fried zucchini ($6.90) or sausage-stuffed banana peppers topped with marinara, mozzarella, and provolone ($8).
In keeping with its nighthawk-friendly hours, Freeport Pizza Kitchen’s bar serves up an impressive array of beer, wine, and specialty cocktails so that every nocturnal pizza craving can be match-made with a sudsy soul mate or glass of grape-blood. Somnambulists can sleep-flirt over one of the Kitchen’s color-coded martinis, such as the Purple, which artfully blends Skyy grape vodka with blueberry schnapps, a splash of lemonade and pineapple juice, grenadine, and a sinker of Chambord ($9). Hardboiled private eyes can order the toughest-sounding drink on the menu, only to discover that the Freeport is actually Absolut Ruby Red, grapefruit juice, lemonade, and grenadine, topped with a sugared rim ($9). Stop by late and mingle with Pittsburgh’s moonbeam population at Freeport Pizza Kitchen.
