Brew up a 4,000-square-foot batch of brew-fun with this Groupon: a brewery tour of Fremont Brewing for seven bucks. Fremont Brewing is a family-owned microbrewery dedicated to brewing really good organic brews. You also get a pint glass and complimentary pint of Fremont's signature Universale Pale Ale or Interurban India Pale Ale with the tour.

Fremont Brewing, which crafts its Seattle specialties from local ingredients, is a new brewery that occupies half of an 8,000-square-foot warehouse. On the tour, you'll get to peek into the secret lair where pale ales are mellowed and tenderly mixed, as if by a delicate hummingbird dipping its delicate proboscis into the sweet beernectar of the Fremont beerbiscus flower. See hot liquor tanks, brewing tuns, and fermenters on the tour, plus a chance to glimpse the not-yet-open tasting room. Fremont Brewing is still experimenting with different types of hops, malts, and Erlenmeyer flasks to make the perfect brew, so it's the perfect time to tour, before its beer becomes the next big, big microbrew and Ticketmaster steals your firstborn. The brewery brought its beers to this year's Fremont Oktoberfest; click here to read a review.

Reviews

Fremont Brewing has a 4.5-star rating on Yelp. Washington Beer Blog reviewed Fremont Brewing's Urban Beer Garden, and Beer and Wine of Washington State wrote about its offerings at this year's Fremont Oktoberfest:

  • With reclaimed furniture from the old Red Door, tables and benches fashioned using re-purposed kegs, and an impressive after work crowd gathering, this is the place to be in Fremont. The Urban Beer Garden (UBG) is hoppin’ – pardon the pun. – Washington Beer Blog
  • Ed and I had already tried the Universale Pale Ale at their Urban Beer Garden so we opted for their Mystery beer which turned out to be a an unfiltered raspberry lambic. Pale pink and cloudy with bits of raspberry, this beer was delicate with subtle sour raspberry flavors. Jonathan had the Universale Pale Ale and it was a bit too hoppy for his palate. Ed loved and I liked it too, because the hops had a great floral character and was so well balanced. – Bean, Wine and Beer of Washington State

Trouble Brewing

Brewery tours are an American tradition, dating back to the 1790s, when the vast majority of Americans actually worked in breweries—a system which many legislators still hope to return. Until that day comes, brewery tours remain largely recreational, although these are a few you’ll want to avoid.

  • Bevvington Ale Brewery Tour and Unregulated Mineshaft Experience (Milwaukee, Wisconsin)
  • Loud Uncle Rick’s One World Government Stout Emporium (Santa Cruz, California)
  • Brooklyn Benny’s New York Style Big Apple Brewery (Plano, Texas)
  • Blüdenbier: The only American brewery run by draculas (Harrisburg, Pennsylvania)
