- $38 for $75 worth of swimwear
In 1979, Janette Love cut and sewed matching swimsuits for herself and her daughter. She didn't intend to start a business, but when neighbors at the community pool saw her swimsuits, they insisted she make more for them. For the next eight years, Love sold the swimsuits out of her garage and at swap meets until she opened her first store. Before long, one warehouse turned into three, and today Fresh Peaches carries more than 9,000 swimsuits in stock year-round. All along the shop's walls hang everything from underwire bikinis to competition swimwear decked with beads and appliques. While wandering the store and browsing the impressive selection of handmade swimwear in a wide variety, customers can still see Love working alongside her two daughters and selling custom-made swimsuits to those same neighbors who got her started more than 30 years ago.
