Dancing partners and Fresno Swing Dance instructors Kellie Townsend and Chris Pluhar impart 1920’s moves to their students using eight years of swing experience. Throughout the four-week-class series, fledgling dancers learn the improvisational art of Lindy Hop, a technique that evolved from the Charleston and inspired East Coast, West Coast, and Recess Playground swing. Dancers begin by learning the basic eight-count footwork of rhythmic steps and bobs, incorporate six-count patterns and swings, and eventually unleash their imaginations by infusing their own dance steps into the routine.
Jitterbugs can take to the dance floor in postlesson open-dance sessions to practice a newly learned technique, showcase their Big Band dance moves, or brandish their immense vocabulary of early-century slang.
