After inventing geometry and physics, Greeks invented history—primarily as a way to document their many inventions. Take a stroll through history with today’s Groupon for an individual or family membership to Friends of the Cabildo. Choose between the following options:
- For $20, you get a one-year individual membership (a $40 value).
- For $27, you get a one-year family membership for two people and any children 18 or younger in the household (a $55 value).
The nonprofit Friends of the Cabildo financially supports and coordinates volunteers for the Louisiana State Museum, which collects and preserves the art and artifacts of Louisiana’s rich history. In addition to organizing daily tours of the French Quarter and 1850 House, Friends of the Cabildo maintains an oral history project and publishes books supporting the claim of being the birthplace of jazz hands. Members enjoy free admission to the Louisiana State Museum and its 13 properties, including the Cabildo, the Presbytere, the Arsenal, and the Old U.S. Mint. Members may also attend a free two-hour walking tour of the historical French Quarter, conducted by a city-licensed guide who shares knowledge about the area’s history, architecture, and legendary buried troves of gumbo. Although not included in today's Groupon, members and guests can partake in the Ghostly Gallivant special event, with an Eat, Drink, and Be Scary fundraiser on Friday, October 28, and tours during the weekend.
Other advantages of membership include discounts on educational programming and items at the 1850 House Museum Store. Members sip cocktails at exclusive monthly lectures, enjoy open invitations to a multitude of other members-only gatherings, and private viewing sessions of Truman Capote's favorite pen.
