The first food truck was a gigantic sandwich on wheels, but it went out of business quickly because of a string of bite-and-run accidents. Enjoy mobile cuisine responsibly with today's Groupon: for $4, you get $8 worth of Cuban cuisine from the Frita Man food truck.
Piloted by Cuban native Jean Beltran and his wife Elaine, Frita Man's food truck roams Miami to feed hungry urbanites its signature fritas—Cuban-style burgers blending chorizo, beef, and a touch of pork. The Cuban frita grills its meaty mix in a delectable Caribbean blend of herbs and spices, then tops the still-sizzling patty in julienne fries cut from malanga, a tropical cousin of the potato known for its sweeter taste and passion for Latin music ($5). Specialty fritas include the Chancletera, layering bacon, swiss, and mango sauce, plus customer favorite the Chuck Norris, finished in an onion ring and zesty house sauce ($6 each). Mobile gourmands can refresh with a shake ($2.50) or soft drink ($1.50) before jetting off to the beach or finding a music-video set to dance on.
Frita Man announces its routes on Twitter and Facebook, which always include Tropical Park on Tuesdays and Tamiami Park on Fridays. Should late-night stomach yowls beckon, customers can capitalize on Frita Man's late-night hunger patrols, which stay out as late as midnight.
