What You'll Get
Before books, students had to tote engraved granite slabs all over campus, which is why the most accomplished philosophers gave the best piggyback rides. Enjoy lighter reading material with today's Groupon: for $12, you get $25 worth of gently used books, music, and movies at Frugal Muse Books in Darien.
Independent story-trader Frugal Muse Books stacks 7,000 square feet with a constantly circulating stock of gently used media. Both bestsellers and old yellers saturate the meticulously categorized labyrinth, including popular titles such as The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson ($7.48–$7.98) and the Twilight series by Stephanie Meyer ($4.98 each). Children's character Percy Jackson bounds from the pages of Rick Riordan's The Sea of Monsters ($3.98) to make whimsical afterhours mayhem with the characters from Dr. Seuss titles ($1.98 & up), among more than 10,000 kids' items.
Bargain hunter-gatherers can convene at the $1 wall, which fills book baskets with overstocked classics, pulpy surprises, and instructions for mocking-bird assassins. Other items in Frugal Muse's arsenal include a selection of DVDs, CDs, video games, and audio books.

About Frugal Muse
Frugal Muse is all about second chances. Within its 7,000 sq. ft. of retail space, a novel's protagonist can take another shot at defeating the villain, finding true love, or successfully opening a pickle jar. Here, shelf after shelf holds lightly-used and discounted books, vinyl records, movies, video games, and CDs. At one end of the store, a $1 bargain wall surrounds patrons with even more discounted reading materials, while two separate rooms brim with 10,000 items for kids.
As for the source of these second-hand materials, Frugal Muse relies on its customers, who can bring in gently used items for store credit (or cash in certain cases). And while second-hand items remain the focus, the store does stock some new reading materials. The staff can even special order most books in print for about 25% off their going price.
