Brazoria County Crawfish Festival
For a single weekend, a perfect storm of cajun culture converges on the grounds of the Brazoria County Crawfish Festival. Formerly known as the Pearland Crawfish Festival, the celebration of one of the south's signature dishes has now expanded to encompass all of the surrounding county. The conditions are just right: blues, zydeco, and other lively rhythms set the tone, and vendors travel from far and wide to show off their best cuisine. Chefs boil up pound after pound of Gulf Coast crawfish, serving them up alongside corn and other cajun favorites, from alligator to shrimp sliders. Crawfish-eating contests add a bit of spectacle to these meals, while drink vendors pour cold beer to quell some of the spiciness.
The festival promises plenty of other carnival favorites as well. Guests can end their crawfish dinners with a funnel cake for dessert, then take a turn on the ferris wheel, catch iguana or armadillo races, or enjoy another classic festival attraction, such as begging your dad for a piggy back ride. The fest also takes advantage of its new location at racetrack MSR Houston, offering go-kart rides on one of Texas's speediest tracks.
