Stylish Eco-Friendly Lodgings Among Natural Splendor

A crisp wind rustles through the tops of towering, majestic pines. Beneath their lofty branches, the 968 Park Hotel tucks itself into the night, nearly vanishing into the forest landscape. Highlighted in a New York Times piece on affordable skiing destinations, the 968 is one of Lake Tahoe’s only certified green, eco-friendly hotels, stylishly gut-renovated in 2009 with recycled materials and kitted out with sustainable practices. Cars rest in the free lot just outside of the rustic, zen-like lobby featuring repurposed wooden décor.

Vacationers make their way up to a Deluxe room, fortified with a complimentary bottle of Parducci chardonnay, cabernet, or petit sirah among other varietals for toast making. Inside the serene sleeping chamber, hand-built, recycled wood furniture stands next to either a single king bed or two queen beds, afluff with high-thread-count Egyptian-cotton sheets upon a Sterling Sleep System mattress. Padding over to the bathroom, guests discover a tile-and-glass shower, replete with organic, compostably packaged My Earth products for luxurious, steamy scrubbing sessions after a full day of hugging trees. Tired travelers flounce onto the bed, switch on the 42-inch plasma HDTV, and log onto laptops to reconnect with family and friends with the complimentary in-room wireless.

After settling in, explorers venture forth from their nature-friendly to sprawl out in the private cabanas or soak sumptuously in the indoor hot tub. The 968’s massage spa relaxes backs with a full menu of knead styles, and the business center stands ready for those in need of a printout before hitting the ski slopes.

Lake Tahoe: Gorgeous Views and Tasty Diversions

The 968 Hotel is a six-minute walk from Lake Tahoe, two inches from Mother Nature, and less than 600 footsteps from two of Lake Tahoe’s major attractions—a glass-walled gondola ride that gives riders a sweeping view of the brilliantly blue lake, as well as an upscale shopping center, which houses an eight-plex cinema, an ice-skating rink, a mini-golf course, and a locally popular breakfast café. Those ready to wander join an all-day, small-group wine tasting around Lake Tahoe vineyards, and history buffs can investigate the site of the Tallac resort, which features preserved vacation homes, hiking trails, and guided walks.<p>

Customer Reviews

This is my favorite south Lake Tahoe hotel. It's a hidden gem. I've been going there for close to 5 years...

Ok so the rooms were clean and extremely cozy. The staff and especially the Hostess, Jade, were very talkative and enjoyable. My girlfriend and I took full advantage of the bar downstairs for coffee in the morning and a free drink at night!

The decor is adorable and comfy, but the location is awesome, and the pub/coffee bar in the lobby was fabulous.. it's just an ideal place.
