Boutique Hotel Overlooking Atlantic Ocean
Ashworth by the Sea Hotel has stood along Hampton's Ocean Boulevard for more than 100 years. Its retro sign—made up of slanting white letters spelling out the name of the place across a brick wall—is a distinctive feature along an oceanfront regarded as one of New England's best. Hotel guests are treated to wide-open views of Hampton Beach and the Atlantic Ocean from their guest rooms as well as from a rooftop deck located directly underneath the sign.
Most of the boutique hotel’s105 guest rooms look out on the water and are outfitted with private balconies. Elsewhere, a heated indoor pool sparkles under a roof made from hundreds of translucent yellow glass panes. Come evening, you can head up to the seasonal rooftop deck, Sandbar, to watch a summertime fireworks display reenact the Big Bang nightly.
Executive chef Stephen Harding presides over Breakers Restaurant and Bar, where he crafts signature dishes such as New England clam chowder and savory Maine-lobster mac 'n' cheese. Recent renovations have outfitted the restaurant with a stone fireplace, granite-topped bar, and wood flooring. On Friday and Saturday nights, Breakers transforms into a dance club with a DJ or live bands from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Hampton, New Hampshire: New England Resort Town with Award-Winning Beaches
Ashworth by the Sea overlooks Hampton Beach, one of only four shorelines in the country named a “superstar beach” by the Natural Resources Defense Council. The award goes to those beaches deemed the safest in the U.S. thanks to a record of clean swimming water. Beginning on Memorial Day, fireworks and 80 days of consecutive concerts enliven the summer nights. Between catching and releasing sunrays, visitors can grab a bite or a beer at one of the many bars and cafés lining Ocean Boulevard.
