Spacious Suites Beneath Dramatic Red Rocks of Sedona

Towers of red sandstone rocks rise up in clusters throughout the desert near Sedona; it almost looks as if they were formed naturally to serve as miniature villages. Though they're not habitable, they've still drawn countless people to Sedona; artists such as Max Ernst have lived here to capture the dramatic landscapes, and the area is said to have a sort of spiritual power that has made it a destination for the New Age healing culture. The Bell Rock Inn huddles into the shadows directly below rocks, its adobe walls painted the same color as the hills behind it.

The inn has the feel of an oasis amid the desert: a fountain trickles in its courtyard, and the campus is dotted with green plants. There's a heated pool outside, and a landscaped walking path winds around the property, showing off some of the area's best views.

In each of the studio suites, sliding glass doors open up to the pool or to views of the stunning rock formations located just steps from the hotel. There's a home-like ambiance to the spacious rooms; feel free to use the kitchenette's full-size refrigerator and stove to prep a meal or practice percussion on its pots and pans. At the end of the night, wind down next to in the living room.

Sedona, Arizona: Desert Scenery, Hiking, and Holistic Wellness

Bell Rock Inn is located in the village of Oak Creek, a few miles south of the center of Sedona. Most visitors to Sedona fly into Phoenix and then make the scenic 120-mile drive north into the city, which leaves plenty of time to stop for pictures of the red sandstone buttes that crop up around each new bend. Oak Creek is situated just off the Red Rock Scenic Byway, a 7.5-mile highway that twists and loops past gorges and sweeping desert scenery. Oak Creek itself, meanwhile, is lined with small cafés, southwestern fusion restaurants, and turquoise-jewelry stores.

Of the sandstone formations, Cathedral Rock is perhaps the most iconic, located about 5 miles from the inn in Sedona. It's also popular among hikers, who make a steep climb on various trails leading to the top, where there are panoramic views of the green forest and red canyons.

Sedona is widely known as a place of healing. There are sunny skies and high temperatures year-round, which lend to the relaxed vibe of the city. There is also an abundance of day spas, where you can unwind with holistic treatments such as massages or mud wraps.
