Telluride Lodge Steps from Mountain Activities

The historical ski town of Telluride is tucked into the majestic San Juan Mountains of southwest Colorado. After a day spent hiking or skiing the slopes, many guests of Camel's Garden Hotel prefer to savor the striking view from an elevated outdoor hot tub overlooking the mountains. Located within walking distance of the shops and restaurants of downtown Telluride and within a few feet of a ski lift servicing the Telluride ski area, Camel’s Garden Hotel is right in the thick of all that the area has to offer.

Off to the right of the hotel's modern sunken lobby sits the full-service Atmosphere Day Spa—home to an innovative massage room and sauna—and Telluride Sports, which outfits adventure seekers with rental bikes, skis, snowboards, and other outdoor gear at a 20% discount. The onsite restaurant, Oak, fills up each day with fresh-from-the-slopes hikers, skiers, and snowboarders dining on barbecue and other southern-style fare.

Decorated in warm blues, deep greens, and burnt oranges, the 465-square-foot select rooms feel both homey and luxurious. An overstuffed leather chair adjacent to a gas fireplace provides a perfect place to enjoy your included bottle of wine, and a private deck looks out over the mountains. In the bathroom, an oversize swayback tub is big enough for two humans or up to 32 cantaloupes.

Telluride, Colorado: World-Class Skiing and Mountain-Town Charm

Gold mining was Telluride's primary means of income in the early days. Once the first ski lift was put up in 1972, though, people started pouring into the little mountain town in droves, drawn by the fresh powder and steep slopes. Today, Telluride’s downtown is a preserved historical district filled with quaint shops, galleries, and eateries lining pedestrian-friendly sidewalks.

The town is situated along the San Miguel River, which runs past Camel’s Garden Hotel and is a favorite hangout of rainbow trout. If you'd like to try hooking one, you can take a guided half- or full-day fishing excursion with an expert angler from Telluride Outside. The easy-to-navigate, 2.5-mile Bear Creek Trail nearby provides a land-based alternative and a chance to see a waterfall.

At the end of November, the first flakes signal the start of ski season. Camel’s Garden offers ski-on, ski-off access at the base of Lift 8 as well as a ski valet, storage, and an après-ski bar doling out free wine and cheese. Only about 2,000 locals inhabit the town year-round, meaning that lines at the bordering Telluride Ski Resort are virtually nonexistent. Unlimited day passes to an array of green, blue, and black runs range from $65 to $100 daily.
