Well-Appointed Suites Overlooking the Pacific Ocean
There are many cities in the U.S. named "Westport:" Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, and California all have one, for example. However, Westport, Washington, is truest to its name—it really is the westernmost port in the country. And this little town's port is a massive one, situated on a small peninsula between the Pacific and the scenic Grays Harbor; naturally, much of the activity here revolves around boating. Out-of-towners visit to take fishing trips, head out on whale-watching tours, and just enjoy the miles of coastline.
Chateau Westport is situated less than a quarter of a mile from the Pacific. It has more than 100 rooms, all of which look out to the water. Each standard and studio room has a big picture window with a view of the ocean. The studio rooms resemble small apartments—they feature brick fireplaces, a balcony, a small kitchenette with a refrigerator, and an inflatable landlord that stands outside your door. In the morning, you can head downstairs to the dining room for a complimentary continental breakfast before you stroll across the property to the nearby beach.
Westport, Washington: Quaint Fishing Town amid Rugged Natural Beauty
Whale-watch boats and large fleets of commercial and charter fishing vessels frequently pass through the docks in Westport. Crowds gather at the marina’s observation tower to get a bird’s-eye view of the boaters on Grays Harbor, Half Moon Bay, and North and South Bays. In between, you can stop by small coffee shops and artisan boutiques in the marina district,
In the spring, it's worth it to take one of the whale-watching cruises, which ferry groups just a few miles off the coast to watch feeding herds of gray whales. Cormorants and herons make their seasonal homes in the state wildlife preserves and tributaries that surround the town, and you can often see bald eagles gliding over the beach to the tune of patriotic rock music. Down the coast, surfers catch waves year-round, and small shops rent out surfing gear.
This was a very nice hotel for a screaming great deal...a weekend at a beach resort including breakfast! We brought our dog and enjoyed the 5 min walk to the beach each day. The hotel was quiet, comfortable, accommodating, and a very good location not too far from town and state parks in the area. A very nice getaway and relaxing experience...highly recommend and we will return!
