Cache Canyon Luxury Camping Trip
Cache Canyon sits about 100 miles northeast of San Francisco, but it might as well be a world away. The city lights fade well before you reach Rumsey, a rural area surrounded by pristine woods and wildlife such as tule elk, wild turkeys, and great blue herons. You'll get to soak up the scenery while whitewater rafting, hiking, and camping under the stars on this three-day, two-night trip from Destination Earth. You’ll also spend some time helping local schools in a rural Californian town by planting a flower garden. View the full itinerary here.
Day 1: Roughing it, this is not—you’ll arrive to a furnished, eco-friendly campsite powered entirely via solar panel. Amenities include a shower, couches, chairs, full kitchen, and chef. Dig into a welcome dinner and relax under the stars. Each evening, you'll hit the hay in a 10'x14' luxury tent, outfitted with a queen-size bed, couch, nightstand, and lighting.
Day 2: After a camp breakfast, you'll embark on a guided hike. A photography pro will tag along to offer expert instruction. If you prefer to swim instead, you can take a dip in the warm waters of the nearby Cache Creek. Fuel up with lunch, and wile away the rest of the afternoon lounging in the hot tub or playing games such as ping pong, darts, and bocce ball.
Later that evening, the group heads to a local school to plant flowers. A portion of the total trip cost goes toward classroom materials for rural schools. Dinner at the camp will be followed by a leisurely night spent around the campfire or taking in a movie.
Day 3: You'll need all your energy from breakfast as you head off to whitewater raft the Cache Creek. Experienced guides will lead two- or four-person rafts through the Class III rapids. Note that guides ride separately, so participants get plenty of hands-on experience navigating their own rafts. The trip concludes with lunch, which is set up at the end of the rafting route.
