Cozy Inn Near Downtown Calgary Attractions

In downtown Calgary, it's possible to start the day with a bobsled ride and then, later in the day, glide down a water slide past colorful parrots and palm trees. Granted, the climate here is far from tropical: the city is nestled in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies, and the waterslide is located in Village Leisure Centre's indoor water park. But the variance of activities is indicative of how the city manages to have fun year-round despite its reputation as the snowy host town of the 1988 Winter Olympics. Only 15 minutes from Calgary's center, Executive Royal Inn Hotel & Conference Center makes for a comfortable home base to explore other popular attractions such as Bow River and Telus Spark Science Centre.

At Executive Royal's onsite spa, European steam baths and a duo of jacuzzi tubs provide a relaxing escape. Guests can also soothe sore muscles with a massage within the comfort of their room. The spacious deluxe queen rooms are trimmed in neutral, earthy tones and feature modern amenities, such as high-speed Internet access, on-demand movies, and self-fluffing pillows.

Decadent french toast and made-to-order omelets are highlights of the sumptuous breakfast buffet at Graze Restaurant & Grill. The luxurious onsite restaurant also serves a dinner spread featuring quality, hand-carved prime rib that was raised in Alberta and eligible to run for city council.

Calgary, Alberta: Dynamic Metropolis Amid Canadian Rockies

Roughly 435 miles (700 km) of biking and hiking paths wind throughout Calgary, whose bustling downtown center is positioned directly amid the scenic Rocky Mountains of western Canada. The paths wind past Calgary Zoo and Inglewood bird sanctuary, home to more than 250 species of birds and domesticated airplanes. Just south of the hotel and near the pathways lies Bow River, a popular destination for fly-fishing and whitewater rafting.

Amid this rolling pastoral landscape, downtown Calgary is a blend of family-oriented attractions and historical venues. The site of the 1988 Winter Olympic Games, Calgary's Canada Olympic Park welcomes visitors to explore the landscape by snowboarding, ice skating, and ziplining. Buskers, artisans, and boutiques line the cobblestone streets of the park's Stephen Avenue.

Very good breakfast buffet, but there's one thing I didn't find in the room- there is no fan in the bathroom. kind of strange.

The air conditioner was super noisy when it clanked on and off at night. Otherwise our stay was great. We got good discounts for the zoo and Calaway Park there too. :)
