Waterfront Lodge on the Lake of the Ozarks

When Harold Koplar built his sprawling resort in 1964, he made sure to let the Ozarks setting speak for itself. A comparison of The Lodge of Four Seasons back then to the resort of today confirms Koplar’s master plan has carried on. Though the polyesters and shag carpeting of the original lodge interiors have long since given way to modern furnishings, the resort’s pristine shorelines and thick forests remain.

A stroll through the lobby reveals artwork from emerging artists—a hint of The Lodge's commitment to artisan craftsmanship throughout its cozy accommodations. In the Main Lodge, guest rooms are appointed with country-style décor and exotic blond-wood furnishings imported from Guadalajara, Mexico. Alternatively, sojourners can opt for the homey comforts of the Residences at The Lodge—which outfits its condo-style suites with two bedrooms, full kitchen amenities, and a private fitness center—for an additional $200 fee.

The resort credit can be redeemed at any of the property's onsite restaurants or at the renowned Spa Shiki. Within its Japanese-influenced interiors, therapists dissolve tensions with Japanese stone massage ($95–$130) and nourish skin with organic green-tea body wraps ($110). Along with the treatment, spa guests receive all-day access to a suite of other rejuvenating services, such as a steam room, a sauna, and a whirlpool whose jets hum soft lullabies to tired muscles.

At HK's Restaurant & Grille, an upscale chophouse with views of the hotel's lush Japanese gardens, chefs prepare classic and inventive fare such as penne boar bolognese ($19) and pistachio-dusted rack of lamb ($36). Mornings are met with a complimentary breakfast at Breezes Restaurant, where chefs sizzle made-to-order omelets in a light-filled atrium.

Lake Ozark, Missouri: Beautiful Hill Country with Outdoor Adventures

Along the centerpiece waterfront, a championship golf course blankets more than 6,500 yards of emerald tracks. The Cove, a par 71 course designed by renowned architect Robert Trent Jones Sr., encompasses 18 holes of undulating fairways set against gorgeous lake views.

Located 20 miles away, Bridal Cave and Thunder Mountain Park leads one-hour tours that show off stalactites, stalagmites, towering columns, and the crystalline Mystery Lake.

Service was great, and the meals were fantastic. Not to mention the exquisite views of the Lake area. Close to shopping and plenty to do on the property, and off.
