Two- or Three-Night Stay at Grandview Lodge in Western North Carolina

Rustic Wooden Lodge Nestled in the Great Smoky Mountains

Things move at a relaxed pace at the 75-year-old Grandview Lodge. When it's dinnertime, a staff member rings an antique bell located outside the front door. And on a large wraparound deck, you can kick back on one of the rocking chairs, which look out to the Great Smoky Mountains. The rolling green mountain peaks surround the lodge, in fact, which lends to a sense of peaceful seclusion at the rustic, cabin-like bed and breakfast settled into western North Carolina.

In the morning, the lodge's resident chef, Nancy, cooks up a lavish breakfast, which includes breakfast pastries made from scratch. During the day, take a stroll around the lodge; it has an abundance of wildflowers and an onsite apple orchard with varieties such as golden delicious, gala, and red delicious.

There are nine guest rooms at Grandview Lodge, and though none of them look the same, all have private bathrooms and windows that face the mountains. There's a woodsy feel to the Balsam room, which features a bed fashioned out of logs and a few best-selling autobiographies of famous lumberjacks. The Grandview Cottage, which sits a few steps away from the main lodge, features two bedrooms, a full kitchen, dining room, and a jacuzzi soaking tub.

Waynesville, North Carolina: Scenic Drives and Outdoor Activities Amid Mountains, Forests, and Rivers

Grandview Lodge is located just outside of Waynesville, about 10 miles from Great Smoky Mountains National Park and on the border of Nantahala National Forest. It's situated off the Blue Ridge Parkway, a scenic drive that features unexpected hairpin turns and views of the mountains. Naturally, the area is a haven for outdoorsy activities, whether it's kayaking, whitewater rafting, hiking, trout fishing, or panning for gems.

Waynesville itself is a charming, old-fashioned town, its main street lined with pretty trees and brick sidewalks. There are also many quaint storefronts, including a general mercantile, candy store, and numerous antique shops housed in old buildings.

Every year, the downtown area is the setting for several festivals such as Folkmoot USA, an international folk-dance and music extravaganza.
