Golf Resort with Spa and Family Activities
The fifth hole at Heritage Hills Golf Course is better known as Free Fall, named for the dramatic shot golfers must play off an elevated tee box to hit the sunken green. The signature hole provides just one of the many challenges in store for players at Heritage Hills Golf Resort, which combines 36 holes of golf with onsite restaurants and a full-service spa.
Using a krypton laser borrowed from NASA, groundskeepers were able to shrink the resort's third course into a kid-friendly mini-golf center. After a round of mini-golf, families can head to Bogey Macaws for specialty pizzas and an arcade-game session. When the time comes for a little R&R, make your way to the Serenity Spa and Salon for a range of body treatments that includes couples massages, mineral salt scrubs, and sweet milk-and-honey wraps.
A huge arched window in the hotel lobby overlooks the golf courses and the distant hills. On its other side, 81 recently remodeled double queen rooms feature pivot-mounted flat-screen LCD TVs, granite vanities, and custom-built solid-wood cabinetry. Each of the resort’s restaurants boasts a full bar and hosts local musical acts, including jazz, acoustic, and rock bands on the weekends.
York County, PA: Historic City amid Colonial and Civil War Sites
York County, nestled in the hills of southeastern Pennsylvania, played an outsize role in early American history. As the capital of the Continental Congress during the Revolutionary War, York was arguably the nation’s first true capital. Today, York’s downtown features a vibrant collection of well-preserved historic structures, including Golden Plough Tavern, a medieval half-timbered building that dates back to 1741 and now operates as a museum.
About 30 miles west and a century later in the history books, Gettysburg offers a full day’s worth of explorations. At Gettysburg National Military Park, you can sign up for a range of guided tours and special events at the site of the Civil War’s bloodiest battle and the place where Abraham Lincoln famously delivered his Gettysburg Address.
