Internationally Themed B&B in a Converted Schoolhouse
Flags representing the United States, Kenya, Italy, and a number of other countries fly on the complex, not unlike a gathering of foreign dignitaries or Olympic hopefuls. But this is in Florida's panhandle, and there's not an embassy in sight. Instead, the flags flutter from the eaves of La Maison de Lucy, a former schoolhouse turned bed and breakfast, where each room has been decorated to represent 1 of 12 regions around the globe.
The bright-blue walls of the Morocco suite calling to mind the Mediterranean Sea are supported by a variety of textiles inspired by northern Africa. There, white cloth canopies drape four-poster queen beds—a stark contrast in a room bursting with color. A Bob Marley poster and bold green furnishings enliven the Jamaica suite, and the Hollywood suite creates a glamorous aura through blush-pink paint and black lacquered furnishings. All quarters come equipped with private baths and kitchenettes.
A hot breakfast starts each morning with fresh espresso, house-made bread and preserves, and nutella-filled crepes. In some dishes, herbs from the inn's own garden enhance savory sausages and potatoes. In the lush backyard, the Florida sunshine bathes the pool in warmth.
Jackson County, Florida: Inland Adventure on Sunshine State Panhandle
Located about an hour away from Panama City Beach, La Maison de Lucy sits in Alford, a small town nestled in rustic Jackson County's natural splendor. This inland region of the panhandle caters to extreme adventurers with deep caves that invite daylong spelunking excursions and underwater caverns that allow for scuba diving in pond waters and expeditions in search of missing Little Mermaid 4 scripts.
For a more peaceful excursion, hike past the intriguing rock formations at Falling Rivers State Park, where you'll find a 73-foot waterfall, the highest in Florida. The state park also hosts a butterfly garden that introduces visitors to the state's colorful native insects.
