Cozy Bed and Breakfast on Lake Garfield
There’s no shortage of ways to kick back and relax at Lakeside Terrace, which overlooks pristine Lake Garfield in the heart of the Berkshires. Easy days can be spent swimming, boating, or fishing for bass, perch, and pickerel. A screened-in, wraparound porch offers expansive views of the lake, and lawn chairs and hammocks dot the landscape. A grand fireplace in the living room brings guests together in the evening. And each morning, you’ll find a continental breakfast of baked goods, fruit, hard-boiled eggs, and coffee.
Constructed in 1875 as a guesthouse, the property features seven individually appointed rooms. Done up in cornflower blue, room 3 occupies a corner of the house and features views of both the lake and the surrounding forest. One of the brightest spots in the house is room 2, where natural light pours in from large windows overlooking the water. Five of the rooms have private bathrooms with showers; rooms 6 and 7 share a bathroom.
The Berkshires: Historical Highlands Region with Cultural Attractions and Mountain Hiking
Located in western Massachusetts, the tiny town of Monterey sits at the headwaters of the Konkapot River, which begins at Lake Garfield. Monterey is one of many towns that make up the Berkshires, a beautiful highlands region famous for its thriving arts scene and gorgeous river valleys. Since the 19th century, artists and writers from Herman Melville to Edith Wharton have found solace and inspiration here while penning their most famous works and typewriter-rebate offers.
The region's arts-centric tradition continues today at a number of repertory theaters and world-class museums, including the Norman Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge and Herman Melville’s Arrowhead in Pittsfield. With its geography of mountains, forests, and valleys, as well as a portion of the Appalachian Trail, the Berkshires also keeps outdoors enthusiasts busy.
