Boutique Waterfront Hotel Perched Above Vibrant Marketplace
On the SeaBus ferry ride across Burrard Inlet from Vancouver, passengers leave behind the city's traffic and skyscrapers for the rustic mountain scenery of the North Shore. The ferry terminal sits right next to the Lonsdale Quay market, a cluster of 90 shops including coffee bars and gift boutiques. Three floors up, you'll find the Lonsdale Quay Hotel, which from a distance looks something like a cruise ship that's just pulled into port. Nearly all of the rooms face the water so that each guest can get an eyeful of picturesque harbor views.
The large windows in executive rooms are flanked by leather seats that come in handy for contemplating the scenery or challenging the housekeeping staff to a round of musical chairs. The views in standard rooms are more limited, but you can still see glimpses of the inlet and North Vancouver.
Every morning on the lobby level, Mix lounge opens to serve breakfast staples such as eggs, bacon, and hash browns. More dining options await downstairs in the multilevel market, which houses a number of specialty food stores and restaurants.
North Vancouver, British Columbia: Bustling Marketplace Surrounded by Staggering Natural Beauty
North Vancouver lies across the Burrard Inlet from the downtown Vancouver peninsula. In place of an urban grid, you'll find a network of hiking and ski trails. Nature reigns on the North Shore, which is apparent in the diverse flora and fauna of Grouse Mountain, located about 6 miles (10 km) north of Lonsdale Quay Hotel. In warmer weather, explorers trek through towering douglas firs and visit the grizzlies at the Grouse Mountain Refuge for Endangered Wildlife. Skyride gondolas transport passengers to the summit for beautiful views of the lower mainland and surrounding valleys.
