New Hampshire Resort Spa at Lake Sunapee

Granite, fir, and fieldstone furnishings crafted by local artisans accent the Mountain Edge Resort, a timber-topped lodge whose decorative details echo its New Hampshire setting. Located fewer than two hours from Boston, the retreat offers a rustic yet comfortable respite from urban bustle. To that end, there are a slew of soothing amenities, including an onsite spa, bubbling hot tubs, and a comfort-food menu in the attached tavern.

The resort's pools stay open year round and feature saltwater technology designed to go easy on hair, skin, eyes, and fins. For some extra bodily attention, set a course for the The Spa at Mountain Edge, where a team of aestheticians administers a full slate of treatments ranging from manicures ($35) to massages ($50 for 30 minutes).

Rosewood trimmings and fireplaces grace the 800-square-foot one-bedroom den suites. Leather sofas and a menu of casual American fare help create a similarly relaxed vibe at The Mountain Spirits Tavern. Dishes such as roasted chicken breast and four-cheese ravioli are served both in the rustic confines of the dining room and outside on the deck.

Newbury, New Hampshire: Quiet Hamlet in Scenic New England Landscape

About an hour's drive north of Manchester, the small town of Newbury lies amid rolling hills and untouched forests. At neighboring Sunapee State Park, hiking trails crisscross the terrain, ultimately bringing you to a picturesque lakeside beach. In the upcoming warmer months of spring, Lake Sunapee is a popular spot for boating, swimming, and fishing.

Nearby New London presents a picture of quaint New England charm. Main Street is lined with shops, a farm stand, historical buildings, and cafés. Across from Lake Sunapee stretches The Fells Historic Estate & Gardens, a preserved early 20th-century mansion set on 84 sprawling acres of manicured grounds and woodland trails. Guided walking tours pass through the 22-room Colonial Revival home, which served as a summer retreat for John Milton Hay—the secretary of state and chief party planner under Presidents McKinley and Roosevelt.

The proximity to skiing at Sunapee. We enjoyed the amenity of the pool and Jacuzzi, as well as the spaciousness of the unit.

The restaurant/lounge had spectacular food at incredible prices...a real bargain The room was much larger than expected with a gas fireplace. being off season, it seemed as if we had the pool/spa for ourselves.
