Posh Boutique Hotel in the Heart of West Hollywood
Giant mansions, movie studios, and the famous Hollywood sign up in the Hollywood Hills: the West Hollywood neighborhood epitomizes the glamour and grandeur of Los Angeles. Palihotel Melrose—set in the heart of West Hollywood—is close to all the glitz, and it doesn't look at all like a traditional hotel—its design is more akin to that of some of the stylish super-homes that line the neighborhood.
Carefully chosen artwork decks out the lobby area, set amid old-fashioned Edison light bulbs and mod furnishings scattered throughout. Faded photographs are pinned to the walls of the queen or double rooms, and vintage ladders lean up against surfaces to act as coat hangers or shelves. Through floor-to-ceiling windows, you can catch a glimpse of the hotel’s green courtyard; some of the windows open up to private verandas overlooking the Hollywood Hills and Sandra Bullock’s backyard trampoline.
Downstairs, the hotel has a busy coffee shop and dining area, Palikitchen, which serves comfort fare such as sandwiches and artisanal coffee drinks. There's an onsite blow-dry bar, too: Vanity's stylists help to make hair sleek and shiny for nights out on the town.
West Hollywood, Los Angeles: Famous Streets and Funky Stores
Situated northwest of downtown Los Angeles and adjacent to Beverly Hills, West Hollywood has so many famous landmarks and attractions it almost seems unreal. And plenty of what goes on here is unreal: you can stroll by CBS studios, movie sets, and streets that have been used as filming locations for the silver screen over and over again. Just a short walk away from Palihotel are the flickering lights of the Sunset Strip and the designer shops of Rodeo Drive.
Step past the front doors of Palihotel, and you're already smack dab in the middle of the Melrose shopping district, which is lined with comedy clubs, funky clothing boutiques, vintage stores, and kitschy themed restaurants. Melrose is a nice change of pace from the traffic and sprawl of the city as a whole; it's a relaxed area designed for pedestrians where wildly painted buildings compete for tourists' attention.
