White Mountains Cabins with Family-Friendly Activities

The motto for the eastern Arizona town of Pinetop is Celebrate the Seasons, a fitting slogan for an area with year-round activities, from downhill skiing in the winter to hiking and rafting in the spring. Surrounded by Arizona's White Mountains, Pinetop draws outdoors enthusiasts who have come for its panoramic scenes, the wildlife along its trails, and the chance to bike, hunt, or golf. Located among the towering pine trees of the White Mountain’s foothills, PVC at the Roundhouse Resort offers two-bedroom log-sided cabins that allow its guests to immerse themselves in nature while still enjoying the comforts of home.

Inside each cabin is a dining table, a living room with a TV (movie rentals are available), two bathrooms, and a kitchen, fully equipped with a washing machine, oven, toaster, and silverware. The cabins are adjacent to Roundhouse Resort, where PVC guests are welcome to cool off at the indoor pool or relax their muscles at the hot tub. With a mini-golf course, bocce ball, and horseshoe pits onsite, the resort offers plenty to do when you’re not hiking through the nearby forests. There are also outdoor barbecue pits and picnic areas for cookouts.

Pinetop, Arizona: Hiking and Fishing near National Forest and Indian Reserve

Nearly 200 miles northeast of Phoenix, Pinetop sits between the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests and the Apache Indian Reservation. Typically pleasant weather is one of the area’s main draws—Pinetop experiences all the seasons, with highs in the 70s and 80s during the summer and in the 40s during the winter. Take advantage of the climate with one of the area’s myriad outdoor activities, including fishing in the area’s unspoiled lakes or hiking along the 180 miles of footpaths in the White Mountains Trail System. About 12 miles away, the Salt River makes for exciting whitewater rafting, as its Class III and Class IV rapids are a suitable challenge for experienced paddlers.
