Oceanfront Resort Close to Myrtle Beach
South Carolina's Grand Strand consists of more than 60 miles of uninterrupted curving beachfront that has long been a vacation playground. Myrtle Beach, the Grand Strand's highlight, has several waterfront amusement parks, more than 100 golf courses, and multiple family-friendly beaches. Fronting its own private swath of beach just 5 miles south of here is the laid-back Surfside Beach Resort.
All of the resort's guest rooms have views of the Atlantic that are underscored by tropical decor. In the deluxe ocean-view guest rooms, you’ll find two queen beds and a private, furnished balcony, from which you can see Surfside Beach below. At the resort's oceanfront Scotty's Beach Bar, you can sip a cool drink on a covered patio; the bar also has seasonal live entertainment and hosts a regular karaoke night.
South Carolina's Grand Strand: Wide Beaches, Lively Water Parks, and Historic Resort Communities
Surfside Beach, locally known as the "family beach," is situated between Myrtle Beach and Pawleys Island on South Carolina's coast. You won't have to wander far from the hotel to find things to do—the resort town is lined with places to rent jet skis and pontoon boats and has a pier for fishing. Wild Water and Wheels, one of the most popular theme parks on the Grand Strand, is only minutes away and holds 24 slides, a wave pool, and go-kart tracks. TripAdvisor recently named it one of America's Top 10 Water Parks, citing the scary thrills of the park's pitch-black Dark Hole tube slide.
Pawleys Island, south of the hotel, is much more understated by comparison. The long-established resort has welcomed the likes of George Washington and Winston Churchill since the late 1700s. Today, the community still moves at the languid pace of the Old South thanks in part to a ban on commercial development and a ban on running very fast. Head here for the popular handicraft shops and to view the architecture in the historic district.
