Elegant, Modern Hotel Next to St. Louis Cardinals' Busch Stadium

The "new" Busch Stadium—home of the 2011 World Series Champion St. Louis Cardinals—sits in the heart of the city, so-called because it's the third stadium to go by that name. Though Cardinals fans may miss the old Busch Stadium, the current incarnation has a distinct advantage over its predecessor—thanks to the stadium’s open-air design, fans have a panoramic view of the downtown skyline, including the Gateway Arch, long considered the symbol of St. Louis. The Westin St. Louis is within walking distance of the Arch, the 19th-century Old Courthouse, and the stadium, complementing sightseeing trips with a surf 'n' turf restaurant and a full spa.

The hotel's modern and elegantly understated décor translates well to the onsite Clark Street Grill, which is designed to look like a renovated warehouse. Massive marble columns support a ceiling crisscrossed with exposed pipes, all surrounding an open-layout display kitchen where cooks prepare pastrami-rubbed flat-iron steak, watermelon-and-feta salad, and other French-inspired dishes. In the morning, head back to this dining room to find the Ultimate Breakfast Buffet, including sausage, bacon, fresh fruit, and made-to-order eggs.

The Solara Health Club & Spa offers treatments integrating aromatic essential oils, Dead Sea salts, and imported seaweed. Upstairs, each deluxe room's bathroom is a bit spa-like itself, thanks to plush robes, a dual-head shower, separate bath, and white-tea and aloe products.

Staff Q & A: St. Louis

Aaron M. is a City Manager at Groupon. He likes music and traveling. Below, he shares his thoughts on St. Louis and its best restaurants.

Describe your perfect day here.

Start with a trip to the St. Louis Zoo, one of the largest free zoos in the country. Follow that up with a tour of Anheuser-Busch Brewery to taste its beer. Watching a St. Louis Cardinals victory is a must if they’re in town, followed by a nightcap at a casino. Along the way, there are some must-try foods: the roast beef at Lion’s Choice, the root beer at Fitz’s, and Ted Drewes frozen custard.

What's the best place to go for a 2 a.m. snack?

Courtesy Diner, an unassuming diner that has plenty of grease to fill your belly after a night of drinking Buds at Busch Stadium

Did you pick up any bits of local slang while you were there?

“Hoosier.” Typically this refers to a person residing from Indiana, usually carrying a positive connotation. Well, St. Louisians use the term to describe a lazy, slow-moving, derelict, and irresponsible person.

What makes this place one of your favorite getaways?

The vibe that takes over the city on game days. The locals have a lot of pride and commitment to their hometown company, Anheuser-Busch, as well as an undying love for hometown heroes Nelly and John Hamm.

I loved the comfy bed and the huge bathroom. I just wish I had notice they didn't have a pool before I booked.
