Snorkeling, Dolphins, and Gorgeous Scenery at Island Resorts in French Polynesia

Tahiti is the largest island in French Polynesia, an archipelago comprised of 118 islands. The isles are known for their beauty—sugar-white sands, volcanic peaks, and azure lagoons. As the biggest landmass in this swath of the South Pacific, Tahiti serves as the main base for travelers exploring the area, and it’ll be your first stop on this French Polynesian adventure.

All three deal options begin with an economy-class Air Tahiti Nui flight from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to Faa’a International Airport (PPT) in Papeete. Click here for a basic trip itinerary and valid departure dates. Click here for an FAQ page.

Six-Day, Five-Night Tahiti Trip

In Tahiti, you can go snorkeling and participate in preparing traditional dishes. Keep an eye out for the dolphins and whales that grace the waters of Matavai Bay. For the duration of your trip, you’ll lay down your head in a deluxe ocean-view room at the Radisson Plaza Resort Tahiti, located on Lafayette Beach amid tropical gardens. You can also take advantage of the onsite spa, which offers treatments infused with local ingredients including volcanic black sand, monoi oil, and coconut.

Eight-Day, Seven-Night Tahiti and Moorea Trip

On this trip, you'll get acquainted with Tahiti on a half-day circle island tour. An English-speaking guide will pick you up in an air-conditioned van and chauffeur you around the 80-mile road that circles around Tahiti Nui, the larger part of the island.

Guests will spend three nights at the InterContinental Tahiti Resort & Spa in garden-view rooms. It's worth it to take a dip in the resort's Lotus swimming pool, outfitted with a white-sand bottom and swim-up bar. There's also a gourmet restaurant here known as the Lotus, and it's hoisted up on stilts. From here, you can get spectacular views of Tahiti’s sister island, Moorea—your next destination.

After a 9-mile ferry ride across the bay, you'll reach Moorea for four nights at the InterContinental Moorea Resort & Spa, located next to the mountains on the dove-shaped island’s northwestern wing. In Frommer's, a travel writer calls Moorea “the most beautiful island in the world.” There are gorgeous mountain vistas here, and you can get a chance to swim with dolphins.

Here, you'll retire to lanai rooms that peer onto the resort’s verdant garden. The gourmet Fare Nui restaurant serves Polynesian specialties, and there are three theme nights each week that incorporate beach buffets, barbecue, fresh fish, and Tahitian dance. Feel free to explore the island or meet and greet a dolphin at the Moorea Dolphin Center, located at the resort.

Nine-Day, Eight-Night Tahiti, Moorea, and Huahine Trip

Guests traveling on this trip spend only one night at the Intercontinental Tahiti in a garden-view room, and three nights at the Intercontinental Moorea in an over-water bungalow. From there, you will fly to the nearby island of Huahine.

Your hotel for the next four nights, Maitai Lapita Village Huahine, features premium bungalows, each outfitted with a patio that juts out over a serene lake. You’ll have free use of the resort’s snorkel equipment, kayaks, and life jackets to explore the lagoon. It's also possible to take excursions to a pearl farm or vanilla plantation or snorkel through a coral garden.

The best "thing" about working with Groupon is Dominic Jenkinson. He is professional, hard working, and when he says he'll call back, he does!

Overall, we had a great time. The resort itself was nice - could definitely use some upgrading though. The staff was very friendly. However, speedy they are not. I get the whole "Fiji time" thing. But for the expense, the staff shouldn't be bringing you the wrong meal nor should it take 2 hours to check out and get to the airport. There were lots of good activities (at extra costs) however the schedule can be unpredictable. We were only there for 5 days and we couldn't do a lot of activities because there was some big group there so by the time we tried to sign up, they were always full. We would love to go back to Fiji but we will likely explore other resorts before booking with Sonaisali.
