University Campus Hotel Minutes from Downtown

Minneapolis owes much of its youthful vibe to the 55,000 students enrolled at the University of Minnesota, whose buildings line both the eastern and western banks of the Mississippi River. The University Hotel Minneapolis sits on the sprawling campus, within walking distance of college sporting events and a trio of university museums, and just three minutes from downtown. A complimentary shuttle service puts the rest of the city within reach, delivering visitors to destinations within a 5-mile radius.

A stay at the hotel also includes complimentary access to university facilities such as its Olympic-size swimming pool, racquetball courts, and study carrels for unimpeded napping. Dining options, meanwhile, begin at the hotel itself. A lobby-level Applebee's serves daily lunch and dinner, and the adjacent University Lounge dishes out breakfast as well as nightly dinner specials, which can also be ordered via room service. Come evening, bartenders pour wines and beers from an extensive selection as out-of-towners and locals mingle in front of two flat-screen TVs showing sports.

Minneapolis: Outdoor Recreation and Bustling Arts and Theater Scene

With the Mississippi River bordering one edge of the city and numerous lakes dotting the inland scenery, water has played an integral role in shaping Minneapolis. In fact, the name Minneapolis derives from a mash-up of the Dakota word for water and the Greek word for city. Even when the lakes freeze over in the winter, locals can be found fishing, skating, and filing their taxes atop the ice. Those who'd rather stay warm can get around downtown via the enclosed glass and metal bridges forming a skyway linking 72 city blocks a story above street level. Thanks to this system, pedestrians can find their way to restaurants, boutiques, and martini bars without ever stepping foot outdoors.

The city's thriving arts scene continues to attract visitors as well. The marquees of three historical theaters in the Hennepin Theatre District illuminate the night sky, drawing audiences to everything from children's plays to standup-comedy shows. The Guthrie Theater stages classical, new, and experimental plays and musicals on three stages at a riverfront venue opened in 2006. Upcoming productions include Shakespeare's Julius Caesar and Tennessee Williams's Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.

Customer Reviews

Your staff is very nice and helpful. Your bedding and draperies could use an update.

Great location and beautiful hotel! Will definitely check here first whenever in town.
Bob K. · January 10, 2015
Clean, comfortable, spacious room, friendly staff, great location. Although not a high end $500-a-night hotel, it has that kind of feel. Stayed there twice, and will be back again.
