Waterfront Condos Less Than 10 Miles from St. Petersburg
Westwinds Waterfront Resort is set on Treasure Island, Florida. There's some dispute about the origins of the island's name. Some say that pirates hid gold here. Others say locals buried treasure chests and then pretended to find them in order to boost property values. In any case, you shouldn't expect to leave the island weighed down with doubloons. There are other riches here, however—a long white beach and the Gulf of Mexico among them. Westwinds stands only a few yards from the sand and has a handful of piers, from which you can watch the pods of dolphins and manatees that frequently pass through the area.
Each of Westwinds' 34 full size condos is fully furnished and many have views of the open bay. Both Windward and Martinique condos have spacious layouts with separate living rooms; the Martinique can accommodate up to six guests, thanks to its second bedroom. There are flat-screen TVs in the living rooms and master bedrooms of the condos. For at-home dining, you can cook on the outdoor barbecue grills or in the fully equipped kitchen, which has granite countertops, stainless-steel appliances, a dishwasher, and cooking utensils. During the day, cool off in the outdoor pool or head down to the beach.
Treasure Island, Florida: Beach Village with Three Miles of White Sand
Surrounded by the warm waters of the Gulf, Treasure Island has a 3-mile-long white-sand shoreline. A great way to explore the area is by taking the Suncoast Beach Trolley, which makes stops at many popular beaches as well as at Pier 60 in Clearwater, site of a nightly sunset celebration. Families may also want to make the trip to Busch Gardens, which is an hour's drive away.
Nearby Saint Petersburg has a charming downtown area featuring art-deco buildings and broad streets lined with palms. Along the waterfront, you'll find restaurants, nightspots, and museums. The town is also home to The Dalí Museum, which displays the paintings, sculptures, and melted timepieces of surrealist master Salvador Dalí.
