These were amazing facilities for the price. Both facilities supplied drinking water in the room. I would recommend bringing some snack type stuff in your bag. In Belize lunch is the big meal. Belize is the safest I have ever felt out of the states. The exchange is two to one, however you do not get panhandled or pressured during your stay even when venturing out from the resort, which we highly recommend. Almond Beach resort was awesome, our room was 20 steps from the water. If you read you know the bugs are bad, we used a sunscreen with bug spray and an unscented bug spray at night, my husband didn't get a single bite, I was eaten up by sand flies (we call them no see-ems). If you are prone to bites I would look into the vitamins you can take ahead of time. While in Hopkins you must try the local Garifuna food, we ate at the local places the entire stay and loved it and never got sick (It was lobster season!). Morning fry jacks are a local staple and reminded us of elephant ears without the powdered sugar. All local restaurants were in town, we walked to Innes the first day (It felt like a hike because of the humidity), we rented bikes the second, and a golf cart the third. We highly recommend Innes and for a romantic evening Chef Robs (four course meal on the water, make a reservation, for the price of a one course meal, chef quality, it was amazing) I wish we had snorkeled in the Belize barrier reef while there, but I was leery of the two hour small boat ride. The sleeping giant rainforest lodge was also amazing, however take snacks and prepare. We acquired some snacks from the grocery stores in Hopkins, the locals call it the Chinese, because they are all owned by Chinese. There is no where else close to eat in the rainforest, the restaurant is extremely overpriced and the food was below average. They do not offer snack options either. The drink prices doubled from Hopkins to the Sleeping giant. The market in Belmopan on your way back to the airport is a wonderful place to get local tacos, tostados, etc. if you just ask your driver to stop and account for the time. When arriving to Belize, we flew in to Belize city and took a puddle jumper to Dangriga. Then a $50 forty minute cab drive to Hopkins. If I had to do it all over again I would just take a car service from the Belize city to Hopkins, its two hours, and ends up being cheaper if you do your research. They do have highways until they get into the village so the drive is not bad. The shuttle from the beach to the rainforest was one hour and the rainforest is closer to the airport about an hour, so I suggest doing the beach first. If you leave close to check out or later you can do a shared shuttle for half the price, but if your flight is early, prepare to pay $150 to the airport for private transportation for two. We had an amazing time, and would highly recommend this trip to couples, kids may get bored.

Quiet Resort on Belize’s White-Sand Beaches

Almond Beach Resort & Spa hugs 700 feet of unspoiled beachfront along the eastern coast of Belize, where lounge chairs, hammocks, and casitas dot the soft white sands. You can borrow a kayak from the resort and paddle out into Commerce Bight’s calm waters—the Belize Barrier Reef protects them from heavy surf. Beachfront and ocean-view rooms are just 60–120 feet from the Caribbean, and they have private patios with partial or full ocean views. Both feature regional artwork and hand-carved furniture made from local mahogany, cabbage bark, or barba jalote.

Dine on fresh seafood, local produce, and other Belizean specialties at the open-air Jaguar Reef restaurant, or head to one of the resort’s beach barbecues. In the morning, stop by Butterflies Coffee Shop, which serves java from all over Central America. To see more of the area, you can book a tour of Mayan ruins or a snorkeling trip to the Belize Barrier Reef. ####Hopkins Village, Belize: Friendly Fishing Town Surrounded by Lush Jungles

Hopkins Village was recently dubbed “the friendliest village in Belize” by Belize First magazine. The vibe is laid-back and there are only 1,000 residents in this beachside locale, giving it a small-town charm. The attitude, along with its array of bars, shops, and restaurants, have helped make the village an up-and-coming destination.

Most of Hopkins’s residents identify as Garinagu, an ethnic group descended from native Caribbean and African people. You can get a sense of the soul of the city by going to the Lebeha Drumming School, which teaches the local Garifuna traditions of music and dance. Almost every night after 7 p.m., the school holds open drumming sessions that anyone can attend. The Gulisi Garifuna Museum in Dangriga is worth a visit if you’re interested in learning about the history and customs of the Garinagu.

Hopkins is just 21 miles south of Dangriga, the capital of the district and the largest town in southern Belize. Dangriga is peppered with oceanfront parks, but the action centers on the main thoroughfare (it varies in name from Havana Street to St. Vincent Street to Commerce Street). Many restaurants here serve fresh fish plucked from the nearby waters; snapper, grouper, and king mackerel are caught frequently in the nearby Atlantic.

The staff at Almond Beach Resort & Spa were extremely accommodating, courteous, and friendly, and professional. We enjoyed the free on-site recreational items such as kayaks and stand up paddleboards. A welcome drink and complimentary rum and coke were a wonderful gesture at hospitality.

I loved that it wasn't tourist. It was quiet and there were plenty of excursion to venture on if you wanted. The staff was great and very pleasant. I really enjoyed my stay and beachfront room. It was worth the extra short plane flight from BZE :)
