Frankenmuth, Michigan: German-Inspired City Along the Cass River
Set on the banks of the Cass River in northeastern Michigan (right where the thumb connects to the forefinger on the Michigan mitten), Frankenmuth was founded in 1845 by immigrants from present-day Bavaria. The city has retained its strong sense of German identity, and every year more than three million tourists visit for festivals, a look at traditional Bavarian architecture, and to see a beautifully constructed covered wooden bridge. The festivals run year-round; upcoming events include "Bringing Back the 80s Fest" in April and the World Expo of Beer in mid-May.
