Spacious Studios Beneath Dramatic Red Rocks of Sedona

Towers of red sandstone rise up in clusters throughout the desert near Sedona. They draw countless visitors to Sedona—artists such as Max Ernst have lived here solely to capture the dramatic landscapes, and many people in the New Age healing culture believe that the rocks hold certain spiritual powers. Located just outside the tundra, desert, pine forests, and mountains of Coconino National Forest, Bell Rock Inn huddles in the shadows directly below the red rocks, its adobe walls painted the same color as the hills behind it.

The inn feels like an oasis amid the desert: a fountain trickles in its courtyard, and green plants dot its campus. There's a heated pool outside, and a landscaped walking path winds around the property, showing off some of the area's best views.

In each of the studio rooms, sliding glass doors open up to the pool or to views of the stunning rock formations located just steps from the hotel. A homelike ambiance pervades all of the spacious rooms, as at the end of the night, you can wind down next to an in-room fireplace in select units.

Sedona, Arizona: Desert Scenery, Hiking, and Holistic Wellness

Bell Rock Inn is located in the village of Oak Creek, a few miles south of the center of Sedona. Most visitors to Sedona fly into Phoenix and then make the scenic 120-mile drive north into the city, which leaves plenty of time to stop for pictures of the red sandstone buttes that crop up around each new bend. Oak Creek is situated just off the Red Rock Scenic Byway, a 7.5-mile highway that twists and loops past gorges and sweeping desert scenery. The city is lined with small cafés, southwestern fusion restaurants, and turquoise-jewelry stores.

Of the sandstone formations, Cathedral Rock is perhaps the most iconic, located about 5 miles from the inn in Sedona. Make the steep climb on various trails leading to the top, where there are panoramic views of the green forest and red canyons.

Sedona is widely known as a place of healing. There are sunny skies and warm temperatures year-round, which lend to the city’s relaxed vibe. Day spas are scattered throughout the area, where you can unwind with holistic treatments such as massages or mud wraps.

The only part of the stay that was less than pleasant was the shower water pressure. The pressure was so strong, it hurt to take a shower. After a day-long hike, with some minor sun-burn, the water pressure of the shower was torture. I even removed the shower head to try to help; but even that didn't help.

The room was very clean and tidy. Even though they were in the middle of unit renovations, the hotel grounds were still clean and quiet. The staff was pleasant and willing to help with any request.
